WATW / Rotterdam
Rotterdam Edition We Are The World was a group exhibition that took place in 2003, at the Dutch Pavilion, during the Biennale di Venezia. A year later, the same exhibition was repeated at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, under the name 'We Are The World – Rotterdam Edition' (March 20 - May 23, 2004). Since we were responsible for all the graphic design in the first exhibition (see WATW / Catalog and WATW / Other printed matter), we were also asked to design some small items for the second version. Shown below is the invitation (front- and backside) that we designed for the Rotterdam Edition. Basically a spin-off of the items we designed a year earlier, the invitation features the same black inkblot as we used before as cover for the catalog we designed for the Venice edition. The invitation is basically a A4-sized cardboard sheet, printed on both sides, glossy on one side, matte on the other:   We also designed a small A5 information booklet, which was basically a double-sided A4 sheet, folded in two. We couldn't find this booklet in our archive, but we'll post a picture of it as soon as we can. By the way, the cover of the original catalogue (see WATW / Catalog) features an inkblot that is the same size as a 12" record. To continue this subliminal pop theme, we made the inkblot on the A4 invitation the same size as a 7" record, while we made the inkblot on the A5 booklet the same size as a compact disc (CD). An important part of the WATW graphic identity were the Rorschach inkblots, stains resembling the countries of the participating artists: Mexico, Spain, Benin, The Netherlands (see WATW / Catalog). For the Rotterdam Edition of WATW, we turned these Rorschach blots into posters, functioning as signage in the exhibition.
